Craft your own affirmations

If you’ve been feeling down for some time, you’re probably accustomed to hearing repetitive, cruel thoughts in your head about your character, the world you live in, or your future. One way to combat these thoughts is to develop and use affirmations. Affirmations are statements, or mantras, that can work directly against negative ruminations. This exercise helps you write your own.

Make a gratitude list

When your self-esteem needs a boost, bringing to mind what you are grateful for can go a long way toward helping you feel better about yourself and your life. Crafting this list isn’t about convincing yourself that everything’s great but about recognizing that there are some great things, no matter how small, that you can appreciate every day.

Meditate on stress

Stress can make us feel more tense and irritable, which in turn can cause some people to act out and say or do things that they didn’t mean to say or do. You may not know how to handle these emotions yet. That’s okay, and you don’t have to know what to do at that moment. This exercise can help you begin to cope when your stress level feels out of control.

    Excellent Resource
This book has been a great resource that I ‘ve been using with my clients one to one as well as in group settings. The activities provide access to intersection reflection as well as an opening for emotional awareness and goal setting. I do recommend this book wholeheartedly.

    Worth every penny
It’s a very important workbook for someone engaging in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Compared to most places that I have seen it, I got it at a great price. My research regarding this book indicates it’s the best on the market. If one is either practicing CBT or in CBT therapy yourself. Although the spiral bound copy is a little bit more expensive. My recommendation would be to spend a little extra money so that you can lay it flat to actually use it. And write in it, it is one of the best cognitive behavioral therapy workbooks on the market today

This workbook has great organization in its content. It also dives right in to activities to try with plenty of space to write and practice. I have already benefitted greatly. Filled with great knowledge, ideas, and information to help develop a healthier mindset in regards to almost any area you can think of that may plague you. Highly recommend for anyone looking to improve their cognitive function.

Wonderfully helpful whether you’ve had a CBT therapist before, or if it’s new to you
I’ve had a great experience before receiving in-person Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but I needed a tune-up. This book has come to the rescue with a great review of CBT and cognitive distortions, and a ton of worksheets and exercises to help you put the ideas into action in your life. The chapter titles give a very good overview of what you can expect, and include “Growing Self-Esteem and Self-Acceptance,” “Managing Stress, Anxiety, and Anger,” and “Letting Go of Guilt and Shame.” I appreciate that the worksheets include time estimates so you can get an idea of what you’re getting into when you dig into them. Also useful are the “lessons learned” sections where you review what you’ve learned and reflect on it.While I’m already a fan of CBT and was pretty familiar with it before reading this book, my feeling is that it is written clearly and carefully enough to provide a useful intro to anyone who hasn’t yet encountered this method. The world would be a much healthier, happier place if everyone, including those who don’t even think they need therapy, read this book and did these exercises – everyone can benefit from self-reflection and from clearer thinking, and this book makes space for that work to be done.

This book is like having a licensed therapist in paperback form. It’s approachable, non-judgmental, and gives you real tools—not just vague affirmations. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, or just need to unpack your trauma with a pen and paper, this workbook delivers. Therapy isn’t always accessible, but this is a damn good step in.
